Hi Gerda, ok, now I see what Begonia you are talking about. I still dont know the name of this Begonia. We discussed it here, but I am not sure. Anyway - the plants tolerate the climate conditions in the living room. I dont have them in a terrarium - they stands near the window without any heating or extra light. But I can see that it is not the optimal condition. I am sure that they will grow very much better with higher temperature and more humidity. But if they tolerate the conditions - its ok for me. I think it is only a problem if they start to throw away the leafs - than you have to do something. Bit for me this Begonia is one of the "hardes" ones.

Hi Gerda, I put my "Red Vein" under higher light intensity and at 28-30°C - now the leafs are darker and the plant looks more "compact".

Reiner,
I have seenAmos' Begonia from Sarawak. It is a long stemmed Begonia, most likely Petermannia section. Yours is a rosette species.
Can you verify that yours is a species and not hybrid ? If it is a species from Sarawak, its very interesting indeed !

Hi oror, my "red vein" is rhizomatous - thats absolutely sure. Problem is: where do the seeds come from? I am more or less sure that they come from Australia. I am not sure if I got the from crazy_begonia from Switzerland (she ordered from AABS) or if I got them from ronit from Israel (she also ordered them from AABS). I will try to check it.

I found it very fast: From crazy_begonia (AABS seeds) I got: Begonia glandulosa, Begonia barkeri, Begonia stigmosa sp. ähnlich, Begonia hernandoides und Begonia karwinskyana. Not all seeds germinated. I put no labels at the plants. I know that is no "good collector practice" - put it is like it is. And I think no one of the names fit to the image of the "red vein" ?

I have grown this species ten years ago, it is often found in seeds bank under the name B. glandulosa but I do not know if it is correct.

I just received the last isue of the Begonia Australis containing an updated seed fund listing. Glandulosa is on offer, so I can order it to see if it indeed grows into something having red veins. This will take time though.
