if using a 2.4.x kernel (sarge comes along with 2.4.27, i guess), nothing has to be done, cause devfsd is running by default. this daemon is necessary to eventually load modules and to create device knods on the fly.

when you decide to choose a 2.6.8 kernel (default 2.6.x kernel for sarge), you'll run into a problem: support for devfsd has been stopped for this kernel and you'll have to use udev instead.

so install the package udev in the terminal's chroot:

lessdisks-aptget install udev

it is possible to use udev and devfs in parallel, if there's the need for both 2.4.27 and 2.6.8 kernels for terminals using the same chroot.
there are some messages on startup of a terminal, but you can safely ignore them.
