to avoid a bunch of ugly looking messages during the installation of the terminal's chroot and/or to avoid a failing installation, you have to set some environment variables to default values.
so check LANG and LC_CTYPE (or LC_ALL) in root's environment.
if they're not set to "C", execute this command: export LC_ALL=C (it will overwrite all LC_* - variables.)
then "lessdisks-install"
once the base Debian system is installed in the chroot:
lessdisks-chroot apt-get install locales dpkg-reconfigure console-data
and choose both times the settings for your country.
you'll have your localized environment when you install new packages in the chroot and during console sessions on the terminals (runlevel 2 and 3).
